The Olympic Aquatic Center was completed in 1991 and became a part of the facilities of the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens ‘Spiros Louis’. Two modern aquatic areas, one outdoor and one indoor, were constructed in an total area of 70 acres. It was refurbished and expanded for the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Several major events have been hosted in the Olympic Aquatic Center, such as the Mediterranean Games and the European Swimming Championship of 1991.

The main event, of course, remains the Aquatic tournament of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.

In 2021, three new swimming pools were constructed, making it one of the largest aquatic center in Europe with a total of 12 swimming pools!!

The Acropolis Swim Open will take place in the indoor pool, 8 lanes.
